My review of Jennifer Lawrence’s favorite $24 perfume, Cyklar Modern Patchouli
Have you ever been curious what Jennifer Lawrence smells like?
Well, I was at least intrigued after seeing the stylish star walking around Manhattan carrying Cyklar’s Modern Patchouli Perfume Oil several times this summer. “The Hunger Games” actress is literally attached to the scent — as she keeps it on her keychain with the brand’s cutie Oil Bag Charm.
The name is a bit of a misnomer, as Modern Patchouli’s main notes are pistachio, vanilla, a hint of coconut and a kiss of powdery mimosa. (Certainly nothing evocative of being downwind of a Grateful Dead concert.)
What the patchouli lacks in head-shop hangover, it makes up for in woody dryness that artfully balances the honeyed notes.
Modern Patchouli blossoms on the skin with a decadent, creamy scent that’s addictive — and sultry. Cyklar uses botanicals and safe synthetics to create a warm, grounded sensorial experience. Despite being a rollerball oil, it has decent throw and garners compliments.
When I dug deep into Modern Patchouli’s ingredients, I found the delightful hidden notes: caramel, tonka bean, almond, sugar and freshly cut hay; no wonder the Dior ambassador loves it so.
The viral brand has become one to know, with the likewise popular body care getting name-checked by the likes of Hailey Bieber and Oprah, while Gracie Abrams swears by the line’s Sex Musk Perfume Oil.
My other favorite perfume is $500, so to me, Cyklar is an incredible value and quality. The half-ounce bottle is on the smaller side, but I’ve used it countless times, and it barely looks like I’ve put a dent in it. It also layers nicely with Sacred Santal, though Modern Patch has my whole heart.
While scent is obviously personal, I can’t recommend it enough — just be prepared to be pleasantly surprised.
