Jerry O’Connell’s mom offered to cover for him if he wanted to bail out of marrying Rebecca Romijn on his wedding day.
During a joint appearance on “Live with Kelly and Mark” on Friday, Jerry, 52, and his mom, Linda O’Connell, recalled the day of the actor’s wedding.
“The day I got married, I stayed with my parents — because my wife stayed with her family and we didn’t see each other until we got at the altar. But we did get in the car on the way to the wedding, and my mother was like [does a wiseguy voice], ‘Listen, if you feel uncomfortable about this…’” Jerry remembered before Linda chimed in, “You don’t have to do this.”
The “Stand by Me” star continued his impression of his mom as a mob boss: “You don’t gotta do this! I’m just sayin’! You can, if you want… You can go to the airport — no questions. We’ll cover for you. It’s okay. You sure about this? She’s a beautiful girl, she’s very nice, but you sure about this?”
Ripa and Conseulos joked that Jerry was making Linda sound like a “mobster” and to “make a run for it,” prompting Jerry to add that his mother loves “everything” about Romijn, to which Linda heartily agreed, “I do.”
The model and “X-Men” star, 53, married O’Connell in 2007. They welcomed twin girls, Charlie and Dolly, now 17, the following year.
She was previously married to John Stamos.
Last year, Romijn revealed the secret to their successful marriage.
“We keep our money completely separate,” Romijn said on SiriusXM’s “Andy Cohen Live,” acknowledging that there is a “community pot” for familial expenses they contribute to “quarterly.”
“The one who’s not working gets a little bit of a break and the one who is working puts in a little more,” she explained at the time. “And we really tag-team with work.”
The duo also split parenting duties, deciding from the start that “one of [them] would always stay home with” Charlie and Dolly.
“No one else is ever going to raise them besides us,” Romijn insisted.
