Why Blue Ivy Carter, Sunday Rose Were Able to Attend Met Gala—Despite Age Restriction
The 2026 Met Gala was a family affair.
After all, co-chairs Beyoncé and Nicole Kidman both brought along their daughters: by Queen Bey’s side was 14-year-old Blue Ivy Carter, while Nicole and ex-husband Keith Urban’s 17-year-old Sunday Rose Kidman Urban was the Big Little Lies star’s plus one.
But their attendance was technically against the rules as normally, those present for fashion’s biggest night are supposed to be at least 18 years old.
The restriction dates back to the 2018 Gala, when the limit went into effect. At the time, then-15-year-old Maddie Ziegler lamented to The Hollywood Reporter, “I can’t go, because I’m not old enough.”
And indeed, an event organizer confirmed to the outlet, “It’s not an appropriate event for people under 18.”
Prior to the change, among the youngest Met Gala attendees had been Jaden Smith and Willow Smith, who made their debut in 2016 when they were just 17 and 15, respectively, and Hailee Steinfeld, who walked the Metropolitan Museum of Art steps for the first time in 2011 at age 15.
