Amal Clooney’s birthday gift to George Clooney had the potential to be intolerably cruel.
Indeed, the Intolerable Cruelty star revealed his wife went all out for his 65th birthday, which included one surprise that could have gone south.
“I just surprised him on his birthday, actually with a number of things,” Amal told British Vogue at the King’s Trust 50th Anniversary May 11 before George chimed in, “Yeah, she had friends of mine show up posing.”
As Amal, 48, explained, they were “posing as waiters.”
But George noted he can’t quite take surprises like he used to.
“It’s a dangerous thing to surprise someone when they turn 65 because you could drop,” the Gravity star quipped. “You know, that could be the end of you, so you have to be very careful when you surprise people.”
As for how he fared after the surprise, George joked, “Yeah, well I’m still standing, barely.”
The couple—who share 9-year-old twins Ella and Alexander—also shared their best nuggets of wisdom for their little ones.
“Don’t mix grain and grape,” George quipped. “I think that’s important for the children to know, don’t mix the two.”
