Get Shailene Woodley on the phone.
Author Veronica Roth revealed that she’s written two new books in the Divergent universe, announcing at New York BookCon that the duo—called The Sixth Faction—will come out Oct. 6.
It’s been 15 years since she released the first book in her dystopian Divergent series, with the movies kicking off in 2014 starring Woodley as heroine Beatrice “Tris” Prior and Theo James as Tobias “Four” Eaton.
But the new novels aren’t sequels—instead, they imagine what would have happened if Tris picked a different path for herself.
“Not a prequel, not a sequel, not a spinoff, not a different POV but an alternate universe of Divergent where Tris chooses a different faction,” Roth told USA Today in an interview published April 18. “I think the question of ‘who is Tris without Dauntless’ is an interesting one.”
So, what can fans expect from the two books?
“In The Sixth Faction, Beatrice Prior stands on the brink of a decision every person in her world must make: five factions, five futures, five lives,” reads a synopsis from publisher HarperCollins. “She has a plan: she’s going to make the bravest choice, and leave Abnegation on behind to join Dauntless, even though it means leaving her family behind.”
