The Afghan national arrested over a triple stabbing in Uxbridge was granted asylum after arriving by lorry, the Daily Express understands.
The 22-year-old was Tasered and arrested after a man was stabbed to death and two other people, including a 14-year-old child, were injured in the incident on Midhurst Gardens.
The development will heap even more pressure on Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood to restore control of the asylum system.
Officials also confirmed that he is not living in an asylum hotel or any other Home Office accommodation.
A 49-year-old man was treated at the scene but died, while another man, aged 45, suffered life-changing injuries. A 14-year-old boy’s injuries were not life-threatening nor life-changing.
The attack is not being treated as terrorism, and detectives are working to establish any relationship between the suspect and the three victims, the Met said.
