“The investigation will determine what they were and that does involve an investigation of how much power they produce,” Overland said.

Early investigations indicated both riders were wearing helmets.

To be used in public, an e-bike must be predominantly pedal-powered, with a small electric motor providing assistance only, up to 250 watts, and the motor must cut out at 25km/h.

A parliamentary inquiry into e-mobility safety and use in Queensland is currently under way, with increasing crashes, injuries and fatalities associated with e-mobility use to be investigated.
