Matildas captain Sam Kerr has officially tied the knot with American soccer player Kristie Mewis in a sun-drenched ceremony in Perth on New Year’s Eve.
The couple rang in 2026 by exchanging personal vows at the grand Dionysus Villa, a luxurious private Venetian-style manor in Swan Valley, in front of about 120 guests. Mewis, a 34-year-old former West Ham United player, revealed earlier on a podcast that the pair had discovered the venue almost two years ago.
Kerr, who is currently a striker for Chelsea in the Women’s Super League, was photographed as she headed to the villa dressed in a sleek black-and-white suit. She was also holding a baby bottle for her seven-month-old son, Jagger, who reportedly was dressed in a mini matching outfit and who would join Kerr down the aisle later in the day.
Groups of guests, most of whom were dressed in black ensembles, were ferried from Crown Towers to the wedding venue on large buses, including fellow Matildas players Steph Catley, Alanna Kennedy, Caitlin Foord and Mackenzie Arnold, as well as Irish footballer Katie McCabe and Kerr’s brother, Daniel. They were greeted at the venue by a violin and cello duet.

Mewis, meanwhile, was dressed in a white lacey long-sleeved corset paired with a lengthy veil and flowing bridal bouquet. As she walked down the aisle, which appeared to be situated in the front courtyard of the villa, she was flanked by lines of guests holding personal white parasols to shield them from the Perth sun (Swan Valley reached a high of about 34 degrees on New Year’s Eve).
Kerr and Mewis, widely regarded as one of Australia’s golden couples, began dating in 2020 after meeting in the United States while playing professional soccer. In a recent episode of Mewis’ podcast, Mewis Squared, which she hosts with her sister, Sam, Kerr admitted that she knew Mewis was “the one” from the day they had met. Kerr proposed in 2023, enjoying a 2½-year engagement, during which time they welcomed their son, before tying the knot in front of family and friends.

Ahead of the wedding, the couple shared photographs of themselves enjoying time with loved ones at the rowing pavilion in Mount Pleasant. While no concrete honeymoon plans have been set, Mewis said on her podcast that they were considering attending the Men’s World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Canada, Mexico and the US next year.
