Martin Sheen Blasts Trump Administration’s Joyless Leadership

Former “West Wing” star Martin Sheen sparked online trends by sharply criticizing former President Donald Trump during a live MSNBC event, calling him “the biggest nothing in the world” and offering him unsolicited spiritual and personal advice.

Why Did Veteran Actor Martin Sheen Criticize President Donald Trump

Sheen’s Scathing Critique of Trump’s Administration

During a live taping of Nicolle Wallace’s podcast, “The Best People,” Martin Sheen did not hold back in his assessment of the Trump White House. He painted a picture of a corrupt and joyless administration, claiming that when looking at the group of people in the cabinet room, “every one of those people look across the table and they do not see anyone who is better than they are.”

He elaborated that they only see “a reflection of their worst selves.” Sheen concluded that the room had no heroes, music, laughter, or self-effacement. He starkly summarized the environment as one that “smells of ego and fear and false worship.”

The ‘Biggest Nothing’ Spiritual Advice for Trump

Sheen, who is known for his activism and spiritual beliefs, offered what he termed as “some personal advice” to the former president. He explained a spiritual perspective that humans “start as a ‘nothing,’” and through accepting vulnerability, can awaken their inner humanity.

Sheen then applied this concept directly to Trump, stating, “So the big guy in the White House, if he would take some personal advice — you got to realize, sir, that you are the biggest ‘nothing’ in the world.” He urged him to stop listening to the “sycophants” who were encouraging his “nonhuman self” and to instead “get in touch with your humanity.”

A Call to Action for a More Human President

The veteran actor transitioned from philosophical criticism to direct, tangible advice for the former president. In his monologue, Sheen instructed Trump to stop focusing on his appearance, saying, “Stop fussing with your hair and don’t worry about your tie.” He further advised him to “stand up straight and speak clearly, not from your throat.”

The core of his message was a plea for authenticity, urging Trump to “Speak from your heart and start being human.” Sheen sarcastically capped off his advice with, “So there you are, Mr. President. With all due respect, sir,” which drew appreciative laughter from the host and audience.

This recent incident is not the first time the longtime Democrat has taken aim at Donald Trump. In 2021, Sheen publicly called Trump a “bum,” a “hustler,” and “a bad man,” also accusing him of being selfish and lying.

His political engagement extends beyond commentary; he has endorsed Democratic candidates, including Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, and has a long history of civil disobedience. In fact, Sheen has claimed that he has been arrested over 60 times for protesting various causes.
