Girl, 5, critical after being hit by ute outside Sydney school

A five-year-old girl is in a critical condition after she was struck by a ute while riding a scooter outside Rouse Hill Public School in Sydney’s north-west.

Emergency services were called to the school campus on Clower Avenue about 3.45pm on Thursday following reports a child had been hit by the car.

NSW Police said the girl had been riding a scooter on the footpath.

Multiple ambulance crews attended with a medical team and treated her at the scene, before taking her to the Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a critical condition.

The driver of the ute – a 43-year-old man – was taken to Westmead Hospital for a mandatory testing.

Both the ute and the scooter have been seized for forensic examination.

In a statement, NSW Police said a crime scene has been established, and an investigation launched.
