Ex-brothel owner Eddie Hayson back behind bars after alleged bail breach
Former Sydney brothel owner Eddie Hayson will remain behind bars until at least May after he allegedly breached the conditions of his bail for drug smuggling charges.
Hayson’s return to prison comes a week after the Herald revealed several of the state’s highest-ranking police officers had their homes raided by the police watchdog over allegations that they had previously accepted the free services of sex workers at an establishment owned by Hayson at the time.
The Law Enforcement Conduct Commission (LECC), which investigates allegations of serious misconduct by police officers, executed search warrants on the homes of at least three senior officers last week.
Last year the Herald revealed decade-old CCTV footage had emerged that showed at least two senior officers visited Stiletto, a Camperdown brothel that was owned by Hayson.
The force is now scrambling as top brass and politicians consider the impact of allegations that they accepted services from a Sydney brothel owner and accused drug runner.
There is no suggestion Hayson has any connection to or knowledge of the LECC raids or that he provided the officers with free services. There is no suggestion the allegations against the officers are true.
The 57-year-old was picked up in 2024 by officers from Strike Force Maimura, who were targeting an organised crime group that allegedly used private planes and encrypted devices to move drugs across the country.
He was initially refused bail but was granted conditional liberty after a second chance in the Supreme Court last April. His bail conditions were suppressed.
Hayson was arrested at Bondi Police Station on Friday morning.
“He was taken to Surry Hills Police Station and charged with breach of bail,” police said in a statement.
Hayson did not apply for bail on Saturday and so was remanded behind bars until at least May, when he is next due in court.
