Why Friends’ Lisa Kudrow Won’t Sing “Smelly Cat” for Fans

“After Matthew passed away, there were marathons, and that was really comforting, watching the show,” she said on Capital FM in March, “also just because it makes me laugh, and there he was. He was so funny. I mean, the funniest. Sorry, everybody else!”

Looking back, Kudrow—mom to son Julian Stern, 28, with husband Michael Stern—is grateful that fans didn’t pivot from Friends over the years.

“You realize how important that kind of escape with a laugh that just makes you feel good is,” she continued. “They are people connecting, who love each other, give each other a hard time, but are there for each other.”

Simply put, “It’s just important and kind of healing.”
