James Taylor reveals why he turned down Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding invitation

James Taylor revealed that he missed Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s nuptials because of a longstanding tradition of performing at Tanglewood Music Festival.

“You know, [my wife Kim] and I were invited to a wedding at Madison Square Garden tonight,” the “Fire and Rain” singer told the crowd on Friday, according to the Berkshire Eagle.

The beloved singer-songwriter added that he wishes the bride and groom “happiness and smooth sailing.”

A rep for Swift did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.

The 1970s icon — whom Swift is named after — has been performing at Tanglewood in Lenox, Massachusetts, in an annual Independence Day concert for the past 52 years, beginning in 1974.

The traditional concert typically takes place at the Koussevitzky Music Shed, and is followed by a patriotic fireworks display.

The “You’ve Got a Friend” singer, 78, isn’t the only celebrity to have ditched the biggest wedding of the year.

“American Idol” host Ryan Seacrest, 51, revealed on Monday that despite sending in an RSVP for the massive event, he wound up working over the holiday.

“I RSVP’d to go, and then Disney hired me to do the Fourth of July 250 special on the 3rd and the 4th,” he shared during “On Air With Ryan Seacrest.”

“So I had to cancel.”

The radio host admitted he was “kind of torn” about whether or not to attend the star-studded fête at Madison Square Garden, or host the TV special.

“Trust me, I went through the minutes,” he explained. “I couldn’t have done both. And the actual wedding was in the afternoon.”

Other celebrities who missed out on the fun included Harry Styles, who was on the European leg of his Together Together Tour, Serena Williams — who was scheduled to play in a Wimbledon doubles match with sister Venus Williams before canceling due to an injury — and Robert Pattinson, who told Entertainment Tonight that he “was shooting ‘Batman.’”

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end and “Opalite” hitmaker, both 36, tied the knot at the iconic sports arena on Friday.

The multi-million dollar extravaganza included such extravagances as Cartier watches, a designer handbag, and a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle reportedly being raffled off, as well as a six-figure security cost.

Despite the absence of the “Carolina in my Mind” singer, Swift appeared to have pulled off a major musical score at the nuptials — Sir Paul McCartney was said to have performed The Beatles’ 1963 hit “I Want to Hold Your Hand” for the newlyweds and their guests.
