Elsewhere in the filing, Nick’s legal team notes that his former attorney Alan Jackson had left the case because Nick’s trustee was not able to pay him. While the Being Charlie writer’s family—including siblings Jake Reiner, 35, and Romy Reiner, 28—had initially agreed to pay for Jackson, “the anticipating funding did not materialize” and the attorney withdrew from the case.

The attorney added a declaration in the filing, however, that notes his firm was “ready willing and able” to represent Nick if the funds are made available.

Originally, Jackson did not share the reason he left Nick’s case at the time of his January withdrawal.

“My team—me personally and my team—remain completely and utterly committed to Nick’s best interest,” the criminal defense lawyer—who has previously represented Kevin Spacey, Harvey Weinstein and Karen Read—said during an appearance on Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa in January. “We always will be committed to his best interests. I want nothing but the best for him and I want him to get the most robust defense that he possibly can get.”

Despite his withdrawal, Jackson has maintained that his former client is not guilty of murder.

After Jackson’s departure from the case, Nick’s family told E! News in a statement that they “have the utmost trust in the legal process and will not comment further on matters related to the legal proceedings.”
