Roda Osman found guilty of theft after falsely raising $42,000
Authorities in Houston recently sentenced Roda Osman to 90 days in jail and 10 years of probation after she was found guilty of theft. According to official court documents, Osman created a viral hoax back in September 2023, where she claimed that a man attacked her outside a Houston nightclub by throwing a brick at her head after she refused to give him her phone number.
She reportedly used the story to gain sympathy and donations online. However, investigators later discovered that she had spent the entire $42,000 raised through GoFundMe on luxury expenses, including restaurants, spas, rideshares, and various trips to New York City and Jamaica. Police reports have also revealed that Osman was intoxicated and aggressive when officers arrived at the scene.
Meanwhile, surveillance footage from the site of the incident has disproved her account, showing that she had struck the man named Olan Douglas first during a heated argument. Douglas reportedly had to face public outrage and even death threats due to Osman’s false claims. Following the verdict against Roda, Douglas stated:
That’s wonderful — usually nothing happens. I’m very happy justice was served.”
Charges and allegations
Roda Osman is charged with theft and fraud for misusing funds raised under false pretenses. Officials have reportedly placed Osman under GPS monitoring, barred her from using social media platforms, and insisted on full restitution of the funds.
