New York Live’s Sara Gore Shares Breast Cancer Diagnosis on Air

Sara Gore is sharing an update on her health.

The host of NBC New York’s New York Live and Open House announced that she’s taking a leave of absence from work after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

“It just felt right to tell you myself,” Sara said on the April 30 episode of New York Live. “I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, and I’m going to be stepping away for treatment and surgery.”

The 49-year-old added, “If I didn’t say that I was a little bit scared, I’d be lying.”

Sara—who shares three kids with husband Matthew Miele—went on to admit that she was “caught off guard” by her diagnoses “which makes no sense” as  both her mother and her sister had previously battled breast cancer.

“I always assumed this day would come,” she said. “But, let me tell you, you are never ready. You’re just never ready for some reason, even when you catch it early because you’re doing everything right.”

“It is an emotional blow,” the host continued, “and I wasn’t ready for that. That actually really surprised me.”
