Todd Meadows’ family is lawyering up after the “Deadliest Catch” star’s death in February, according to a new report.
The late deckhand’s loved ones are going to file a wrongful death lawsuit — although it remains unclear who would be named as the defendant, per TMZ.
The outlet obtained legal docs displaying the family’s intention to open Meadows’ probate estate, which would begin the process for managing his affairs and transferring ownership of his assets.
Meadows died on Feb. 25 after falling overboard a crabbing vessel in the Bering Sea off the coast of Alaska.
The reality star, who was filming the Discovery Channel series at the time, was inside a shellfish trap sorting crabs when it went “over the rail” and into the water, as relayed by cast member Trey John Green III.
Meadows’ body was recovered 10 minutes later, at which point he was unresponsive.
First aid attempts by his fellow crew members were unresponsive.
The Coast Guard is still investigating Meadows’ passing.
His cause of death was “drowning with probable hypothermia” and “submersion of body in cold water.”
Meadows is survived by three young sons, whom he shared with partner Kennady Harvey.
His sister, Mackenzie Meadows, told Us Weekly the following month that her sibling will live on “through his boys.”
“His boys will see him through pictures,” she said on March 4. “No words put together can even describe the pain we’re going through and will continue to.”
As for their mom, Angela Meadows begged “Deadliest Catch” producers that same day not to “air any of that footage” or “make money off” the tragedy.
“I want his memory to be a good memory,” she told TMZ, noting that Todd died doing what he loved.
“We don’t want to put the blame on anyone, but someone has to take responsibility. We will have justice for Todd.”
