All fireworks banned in 12 UK areas from Friday with £5,000 fine and 6 months prison | UK | News

All fireworks will be banned at all times in at least 12 UK areas starting from this Friday, with restrictions staying in place until after Bonfire Night. Laws introduced in 2022 allow Firework Control Zones (FCZ) to be enforced in specific areas. Anyone found setting off a firework in a FCZ is committing a ‘criminal offence’ which carries a £5,000 fine and six months in prison.

The law applies in Scotland and both Edinburgh and Glasgow have announced the areas which will be covered by FCZs this Bonfire Night. In Edinburgh, it will be illegal to set off fireworks – even on private property – from Friday, October 31 until November 9.

City of Edinburgh Councils said: “To help keep our communities safe there will be nine areas in the city where it will be illegal to set off fireworks, even on private property, from 31 October to 9 November 2025. 

“These areas are known as Firework Control Zones and can help reduce noise, stress, littering and antisocial behaviour caused by fireworks. These areas are:

Balerno

Calton Hill

Corstorphine

Gracemount

Longstone

Moredun

Niddrie

Seafield

Sighthill

In Glasgow, Firework control zones have been confirmed for three communities – Pollokshields, Govanhill and Broomhouse, from Saturday, November 1.

Glasgow City Council said: “The introduction of the zones mean it will be a criminal offence for a member of the public to set-off a firework anywhere within the zone from 1 November to 10 November 2025. 

“This includes both public and private spaces, such as back gardens, although sparklers are exempted.

“It will also become an offence to launch a firework into one of the designated zones.

“Police Scotland will enforce the new restrictions. Anyone found breaching a firework control zone can face up to six months in prison and a fine of up to £5000.”
