Man whose carer was found dead arrested at crash scene after pursuit

A man whose female carer was found dead at his house was involved in an alleged police chase and crash just before his arrest hundreds of kilometres from home.

He has been identified as Wael Abdallah Saleem Alfar.

Family of his 46-year-old carer had reported her missing about 1am on Monday, and investigating police travelled to Alfar’s house on Waterford Tamborine Road in Buccan, Logan, where they found her body on the back deck.

Officers tracked him to northern NSW within hours, and police from that state attempted to stop him near Coffs Harbour about 3pm.

He allegedly refused to stop, and a high-speed chase continued about 80 kilometres through Valla, Nambucca Heads, Macksville, Warrell Creek, and Eungai Creek.

The driver crashed into a culvert at Stuarts Point Road in Yarrahapinni, where he was arrested.

He was taken to Kempsey Police Station and hit with charges related to the pursuit.

Alfar had not been charged with any offences linked to the woman’s death.
