A man is dead after being shot inside a unit in western Sydney.
The 44-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound inside a unit block on Newman Street in Merrylands about 6.40am on Saturday morning.
Police said the man was killed after being shot with a single bullet wound to the chest.
Detective Acting Superintendent Tim Calman said the shooting happened inside his unit block.
“It appears at this stage it was not a random attack… It would look as if it was actually targeted,” he told media.
He said a woman found the man inside the unit.
“He was shot to the chest. It’s only a single shot.“
“The man is known to police, but only for a minor matter and nothing with obvious links to organised crime or drug related matters.“
“The incident is all contained within the unit. A female resident of that premises, we believe, is the person that is located this male.”
