Child fighting for life after cars struck by truck on Sunshine Coast

Two toddlers are among seven people injured after a truck crashed into multiple cars on a Sunshine Coast street.

The truck hit several cars before pinning a vehicle carrying a woman and two toddlers, aged one and three, against a building under construction about 11.45am on Thursday along Banya Avenue in Banya, south-west of Caloundra.

The three-year-old girl was fighting for her life after suffering critical head and chest injuries. She was flown by helicopter to Queensland Children’s Hospital.

The one-year-old girl was taken in a critical condition to Sunshine Coast University Hospital before also being flown to Queensland Children’s Hospital.

Their mother, aged in her 30s, remains at Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition with head and chest injuries.

Paramedics assessed seven people in total, including the truck driver, with the remaining four taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

A man in one of the other cars told Nine News he and some tradespeople from the construction site pulled the two girls from the car.

Police are now investigating the crash and urge anyone with relevant information to come forward.
