A popular baker has gained a huge reputation in recent years while opening some 170 branches across the UK. Gail’s Bakery is a posh cafe that’s most well-known in London.
Some of its most recent branches have opened in Walthamstow, Hackney, Stoke Newington and Primrose Hill. The bakery has become popular for its sourdough loaves, its range of impeccable cakes and its luxurious sandwiches. But now, Gail’s has been named Bakery Retailer of the Year in the Baking Industry Awards 2025, reports Time Out. Gail’s beat finalists Bird Bakery, Lidl, and M&S to clinch the top title.
Another item it is well known for is its cinnamon buns which are a favourite amongst visitors.
Gail’s has been slowly growing across the UK and it now has around 170 branches.
In winning the award, it was praised for its use of “diverse grains”, British farming and its “knowledgeable and enthusiastic” staff members.
One visitor on Tripadvisor said: “The sandwich and pastry were lovely and fresh – very tasty. The coffee was a nice blend and hot. Staff very friendly and the place was very clean.”
Another said: “Available everywhere in London – Best Cafe! Lovely bakery – check the blueberry pie. The best chai latte in the world. Good bread to bring home.”
The first branch of Gail’s was opened in 2005 in Hampstead, London but since then, the chain has expanded to a huge number of stores in London.
More recently, it has begun to pop up in other parts of the country, from Birmingham to Manchester.
If you haven’t tried Gail’s – it’s definitely worth a trip to see what you think of its award-winning range of pasties, sandwiches and coffees.
