A boy was set upon by a group of teenagers in the food court of the Broadway shopping centre on Wednesday evening, with the group striking an innocent shopper with a chair.
Footage posted online shows at least eight teenagers armed with chairs and stools in the shopping centre at Glebe in inner Sydney around 5.50pm on Wednesday, swearing and making offensive gestures towards the boy, who fled down a nearby escalator.
A nearby shopper was caught in the confrontation, after she was struck in the back by a chair thrown at the escalator by one of the boys.
Police say the chairs used as weapons by the boys then fell to a lower level of the shopping centre, threatening the safety of shoppers below.
The teens, at least two of whom were on bikes, then made a swift escape from the shopping centre.
Both the group and boy they had targeted had left the shopping centre before police arrived. No injuries were reported, and police are investigating the incident.
