Rebel Wilson Breaks Her Silence After The Deb Co-Star’s Lawsuit –

The actress explains why she felt obligated to act after hearing of alleged harassment on set

The Background of the Dispute

24 November 2025: Rebel Wilson, director and star of the upcoming movie The Deb, has publicly addressed a lawsuit brought by her co-star Charlotte MacInnes, who claims she was defamed after Wilson alleged the actress was sexually harassed on set. Wilson says the actor came to her with a complaint, which she felt she had a duty — ethically and professionally — to act on.

What Wilson Says Happened

During an appearance on 60 Minutes Australia, Wilson said she was “100 % sure” MacInnes told her: “Amanda Ghost asked me to [take] a bath and shower with her, and it made me feel really uncomfortable.” Wilson further explained that as the film’s director, she believed she had an obligation to report what she perceived as a sexual-harassment complaint. She said:

“She came to me, she made what I obviously inferred as a sexual-harassment complaint, and I had a duty to then act on it.”

Wilson also stated that the moment she did act, she experienced retaliation. She described being pressured, locked in a room with producers and threatened with job losses tied to the film’s release.

The Legal Response and Producer Claims

Producers of The Deb and MacInnes both deny any misconduct. MacInnes’ legal team has repeatedly stated the allegations are “completely false and absurd.” The producers — including Amanda Ghost, Gregor Cameron and Vince Holden — have filed defamation lawsuits against Wilson for her public claims of harassment, embezzlement and sabotage. Wilson has filed countersuits alleging widespread misconduct by the production team.

Why This Matters

In the midst of the #MeToo movement and heightened scrutiny of behavior on film sets, Wilson’s remarks and legal entanglements illustrate the complex intersection of power, responsibility and reputation. Her insistence that she acted out of duty highlights how even well-intentioned interventions can spark major conflict — especially when they involve high-stakes projects and public personalities.

Navigating the Fallout

High Stakes for Everyone Involved

The situation remains unresolved, with legal battles flowing in multiple jurisdictions and the release of The Deb still in limbo. For Wilson, portfolio risks are high: she is both directing and starring in the film, making the outcome of these disputes particularly impactful. For MacInnes and the producers, the allegations and litigation could influence careers, reputations and the future of the project.

As the case proceeds, the boundaries between advocacy, production duties and public narrative control continue to blur — demonstrating how the entertainment industry still grapples with accountability, image and artistic ambition.
