The SACD accuses TikTok of unauthorized use of classic French films and sketches without fair compensation.

SACD Takes TikTok to Court

November 14, 2025: France’s Society of Dramatic Authors and Composers (SACD), which represents roughly 60,000 writers and composers, has filed a lawsuit against TikTok in Paris. The rights-management body claims the platform has used works from its repertoire — including iconic French films, TV shows, and comedy sketches — without authorization or adequate payment.

Years of Failed Negotiations

SACD says it tried to negotiate with TikTok for four years, but discussions broke down. In its statement, the group accused TikTok of ignoring requests to remove protected content and refusing to pay fair royalties.

Famous French Works Highlighted

The lawsuit specifically points to snippets of dialogue and scenes from celebrated works like Asterix and Obelix, Brice de Nice, and other culturally significant films and series — all allegedly shared on TikTok without proper licensing.

Demanding Transparency and Compensation

SACD isn’t just seeking financial compensation. It’s also calling for TikTok to open its books: the organization has requested full disclosure of the platform’s revenue to calculate how much is owed to authors fairly.

Legal Hearing Set for March

A court hearing is scheduled for March 2026, giving SACD a chance to press its case. Meanwhile, TikTok has not publicly responded to the lawsuit.
